How does a practical simulation work?
Prior to the assignment, you are given time to prepare for the practical simulation. The instructions describe what position you hold in the simulation, what you need to achieve and who will be sitting across from you. This allows you to organise your thoughts in advance and come up with a plan of action. We also recommend setting a relationship goal in addition to a content-related goal.
During a practical simulation you are asked to keep track of the time yourself. We advise you to put your best foot forward, without displaying forced behaviour. It is generally good to be open to the views and perceptions of your conversation partner, without having to go along with them completely (firm on content, careful with the relationship).
A few tips:
- Pay attention to your counterpart’s signals and respond/anticipate to what happens.
- Be mindful of your body posture.
- Listen carefully to your counterpart.
